Hatoful Boyfriend
This is a small selection of images I created for one of my all-time favorite projects, Hatoful Boyfriend in 2014. The backgrounds are based on Moa Hato's original art. Our schedule was so tight, we sometimes would only have a day in order to finish one of the backgrounds. So we developed a couple of tricks and skills in order to be able to create a style that is both memorable and worthy of the wonderful game.
The Torimi Cafe also exists in real life. Apparently, this version did not make it into the game although it is one of my favorite pieces of the series. Look at the tiny birds, how dare you guys.
The jewelry shop was done for the Holiday Star Game. At this point we had become super quick, so we were able to draw some really cool details in a short amount of time.
Together with Adam Walker and the support of our producers Luke Borrett and Anna Morris, we drew over 50 backgrounds in a matter of weeks.
The institute of St. Pigeonation is full of secrets, some of them are very dark.
Creating a festive atmosphere for the Christmas-episode was easy as it was already Winter when we worked on these, and even here in the south of England, one could find the occasional snowflake on the way to the pub.
Thanks to Moa Hato we had a lot of creative freedom. In return, I did my best in order to honor her vision.
